CAEDMON / WORK #120

Radici e baionette

The sleeve remains within reach. Even when a person can no longer offer a hand, someone else may take hold of them. Nothing has been restored to the person held. Yet they continue to provide a support which an inventory of their remaining powers would fail to include.

It would be premature to call this a gift. The one who stands need not have chosen to support the one who kneels. Both may be waiting for the same impact, though from a distance only one occupies the place toward which it is directed. The distance permits a certain accuracy.

We have so far considered only supports that receive some weight. The hand on the sleeve may exert almost no pressure. Its fingers are occupied with keeping their place.
