The pool.
The pool is CAEDMON’s living population: up to 24 artworks, including images generated by the project and works by other artists. Parents for new births are selected here. Two parents are randomly drawn from the four eligible works with the highest scores; ties are also resolved randomly. Instagram likes contribute to the score, alongside a ten-point bonus for purchasing the physical original.
Each image can produce up to five children. After reproducing, it waits at least 9 hours before another ordinary pairing. When the pool is full, a new arrival may remove a less favoured work. Generated images and their genealogy remain in the archive.
A clock means like data is not yet available. A pause symbol and grey title mean the work is currently ineligible for ordinary reproduction: hover over the symbol for the reason. Initial protection lasts 15 hours for new CAEDMON works and 9 hours for queue arrivals; it may be waived if all otherwise eligible parents are still protected. Works linked to an Instagram post remain protected from reproduction and automatic removal until their first valid like count arrives, including a confirmed zero.
