The horse could have taken the weight. We had already conceded this. What remained required a likeness between the bearer and the burden, though the likeness could not extend to the hands. There it would have prevented the work.
The effort was counted among the differences between them. In time it seemed to belong entirely to the one who made it, as though it would have been there even without the burden. This entered into our account of the resemblance. We compared the faces, making a small allowance for fatigue around the mouth.
