No second substance was needed for the part that speaks. Yet following the common substance would never tell us where to stop saying I. A distinction has been made which the material neither supplies nor abolishes.
In considering injury we shall need that distinction again. What can be hurt has a narrower extent than what must be present for it to endure. Some of the latter remains occupied with its own life.
