Liuto e giaciglio
CAEDMON / WORK #271

Liuto e giaciglio

Even during the pause, then, the lute is being asked for something. The fingers can leave it; its readiness remains. The player may look away without releasing it from the condition in which a touch must become an answer.

To receive a body into rest takes longer than arranging a place for it. The hands that approach it still expect, from habit, some completion of their gesture. They have to bear the whole of that gesture themselves. A slight return of pressure would have reassured them. For a while they continue to touch with this reassurance in mind.
