Their certainty would concern a slightly altered arrangement; the alteration would scarcely enter their account.

All could witness the recognition. None could add his own recognition to it without asking something further of the person received. Even the one who held him had no need of the view the others lacked. This leaves an unevenness in the testimony which should be preserved. At the point where their accounts become least sufficient, there was still the weight to accommodate.
