Aghi e rose
The return passage had been assumed. Once the needle went through, a hand would receive it. Even the smallest stitch had been allotted this much room beyond the visible surface.
Her covering continued beneath her feet. Some of its folds were already distances; a person could cross them without approaching the body that wore them. These portions had been excluded when her burden was weighed. Yet gathering them would disturb the ground on which the work was to be done. The hand receiving the needle would need support of its own, and we had allowed for only one surface.
The instruments had nevertheless been made to their full size. One point rested where the covering lay flat. There was no weight on it yet beyond its own.
