CAEDMON / WORK #161

Alloro e baionette

The hand had taken hold of the cloth without drawing it closer. The answering movement occurred much higher, where the head bent. No tension ran between these places. An account of the contact must nevertheless include both, and the loose length between them.

It is possible to reach a person where one cannot touch him. This requires something from the person reached; the distance is partly his to complete. Here the account becomes less exact. We can locate the fingers, and say how far the head has descended, without finding the place at which the gesture passed from one to the other.

Those taking aim have a simpler use for distance. Their measurements remain valid throughout this exchange. The slight inclination requires scarcely any adjustment at the chest. Lower down, the cloth is still held without being pulled.
