The brightness of the feathers was left out of the reckoning. To include it we would have had to include the creature, and the creature would have carried our estimate away. We counted only the gold that could be brought separately. This was a restriction of the account, though much was afterwards inferred from it.
Receiving has conditions the offering cannot supply. The one to whom it is brought is himself being held; his hands are free because another bears his weight. No portion of the gift can be assigned to that support without changing whom it was given to.
For the present, it remains in the hands that brought it. The arms beneath him are already occupied.
